NEW COURSE Introduction to Wind and Brass: The Perfect Start for Young Musicians

ree

Are you looking for a fun, structured, and confidence-building way to introduce your child to music? Introduction to Wind and Brass is our brand-new, small-group, two-year program designed especially for young musicians eager to explore wind and brass instruments.

This exciting journey begins with the recorder — a fun, accessible first instrument — and gradually builds the skills children need to transition confidently into one-to-one lessons on their chosen instrument.

🎵 What Your Child Will Learn

Over the course of this two-year program, children will:

Learn to play the recorder in a small, supportive group (maximum of 4 students)✅ Explore different wind and brass instruments — flute, clarinet, trumpet, and more✅ Build essential skills like breathing control, articulation, fingering, and basic music reading✅ Experience ensemble playing right from the start✅ Perform once per year in a relaxed, encouraging concert setting to celebrate progress and boost confidence

🛤️ The Perfect Pathway to One-to-One Lessons

Before diving into private lessons, it’s important for children to develop a solid musical foundation — and that’s exactly what this program provides. Introduction to Wind and Brass helps students:

🎯 Build essential playing techniques🎯 Discover which instrument feels right for them🎯 Develop good musical habits from the beginning

This means that when they do transition into one-to-one lessons, they’ll start ahead of the curve and progress even faster.

👧 Who It’s For

This program is designed for children in 1st class (ages 6–7).

It’s an excellent follow-on for students who have completed Gateway to Music 2, but it’s also open to newcomers to Newpark who are excited to explore wind and brass instruments.

💡 Why Start with Recorder?

Starting with recorder isn’t just a tradition — it’s a smart choice! Recorder playing teaches:

🎵 Proper breathing techniques🎵 Good finger coordination🎵 Note reading and rhythm skills🎵 Listening and ensemble playing

This strong foundation gives children a head start when they later choose to play flute, clarinet, trumpet, or any other wind/brass instrument.
