Jazz at Newpark is the home of the jazz education department that drives our organisation’s efforts to advance the appreciation, understanding, and performance of jazz. This department offers a continuum of jazz education programmes that are designed to suit the varied interests and capabilities of children, teens, and adults. Students learn about jazz’s heritage and history as well as its greatest musicians and compositions; they explore its connection to other art forms, and also study how to play jazz.

IMPROVISATION COURSE

The popular Jazz Ensemble Improvisation Course at Newpark Academy of Music is taught by some of Ireland’s leading jazz musicians and offers a pathway for musicians to enter the world of jazz improvisation.
INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ
LESSONS

We are delighted to offer instrumental jazz lessons with a range of experienced & dedicated teachers. Lessons are offered in 30 minute and 1 hour classes.
Music Technology and Composition Micro Course

This course offers a hands-on introduction to music technology and composition, equipping students with essential skills in digital audio production, MIDI sequencing, and sound design. Participants will explore modern music software, experiment with electronic and acoustic sounds, and develop their own compositions. Ideal for beginners and aspiring producers, this micro course provides a creative and practical foundation in contemporary music-making.
NEWPARK BIG BAND
2024

Students will establish a strong theoretical and stylistic foundation with regards to improvisation and performance within a Large Jazz Ensemble. There will be an emphasis on the development of the student’s individual expression and creativity.
INTRO TO JAZZ BLUES IMPROVISATION (GUITAR) Micro Course

This practical-skills based course is specifically tailored for guitarists who wish to take the next step in their improvised soloing and accompaniment skills.
Jazz Harmony & Composition Micro Course

This 12 week course is designed for students at a beginner and intermediate level with an interest in understanding jazz harmony and using the knowledge taught to compose their own music, you will explore the building blocks of melody, harmony, rhythm, and form.
