38. Junior Jazz Competition (Ages 15-17)
The competition is open to all instruments, including voice.
Competitors will be required to perform two jazz pieces, one standard and one own-choice piece (not to exceed 10 minutes).
Competitors will perform with our jazz trio comprising of Kevin Brady (drums), Scott Flannigan (piano) and Dave Redmond (bass).

39. Senior Jazz Competition (Ages 18-26)
The competition is open to all instruments, including voice.
Competitors will be required to perform two jazz pieces, one standard and one own-choice piece (not to exceed 10 minutes).
Competitors will perform with our jazz trio comprising of Kevin Brady (drums), Scott Flannigan (piano) and Dave Redmond (bass).
The winner of the Senior Jazz Competition will be offered an opportunity to play two pieces at Arthur's Blues & Jazz Club on Thursday the 27th of May 2027 as part of Newpark Jazz Department's end of year concert with a professional trio rhythm section.

Performance Expectations
Competitors are expected to demonstrate an understanding of jazz performance practice, including melodic interpretation, rhythmic accuracy, stylistic awareness, improvisational ability, and effective communication with the accompanying trio.
Performances should reflect appropriate preparation, musicality, and creativity. Competitors should be familiar with the form, harmony, and style of their chosen repertoire and be prepared to lead the ensemble confidently where required.
The adjudicators, with input from the trio will assess performances on criteria including technical proficiency, time feel, improvisation, interpretation, ensemble interaction, stage presence, and overall artistic expression.
Rules and regulations
Competitors will be required to perform two jazz pieces, one standard and one own-choice piece.
Choice of repertoire will be accepted at the discretion of Newpark’s Head of Jazz, Kevin Brady.
Charts must be supplied for the trio by January 11th 2027.
Each competitor must ensure that their entire performance does not exceed 10 minutes.
There will be no rehearsal with the trio prior to the competition.
Each competitor will be given 5 minutes before their performance to prepare.
Participants who play bass, drums or piano will perform with accompaniment from the other two rhythm section instruments (bass, piano, and/or drums).
